Week 12 / Spring 2026

ASUC Senate Meeting
Tuesday, April 14, 2026

ASUC Senate Chambers (510 Eshleman Hall)

The meeting was largely procedural, dominated by a series of presentations from executive and appointed officials. A notable public comment raised concerns about misinformation surrounding a student divestment referendum's voting requirements, prompting clarification from the EVP and Parliamentarian. The Senate processed a lengthy consent calendar and introduced a significant number of new bills for committee review.

ASUC Housing Commission

This week is tenants' rights week. We will be doing it next week as we had been tabling on Sproul. On Friday, we are having a service day. Next week on Monday, we will be conducting interviews on Sproul, on Tuesday we will be tabling for freshmen looking for housing, and Wednesday tabling for transfers. It would be super helpful if you can help promote our event.

I am an alumnus who worked as the first legal officer and rewrote many bylaws. I am bringing up misinformation on the divestment resource the student body is currently voting on. They are saying there needs to be 20% turnout for the ballot measure to pass. This only applies to fee referendums, which is a campus rule. This misinformation is very bad. You can check the 400 series bylaws, which have not been changed, and the ASUC constitution. The only turnout requirement is for specific elections for ballot measures, which has not happened, and recall elections. I hope you can correct this misinformation and push the elections council chair to look more into it.

I have a clarifying question: if it gets over 50%, can it pass?

The Elections Council and CLO have confirmed it does not necessarily require 20% for the referendum.
