This resolution urges UC Berkeley to invest in improved maintenance for native plants in "The Shade" area behind Alumni House. It addresses the current neglect, which has led to 80% of plants dying, creating fire hazards, and making the space unwelcoming for students. The resolution specifically calls for ripping out dead shrubs and weeds, mowing grassy areas, and establishing benches or tables to transform the area into a habitable student hangout spot.

I am advocating for Senator Solomon's proposal to establish 'the shade'. She showed me a site with poorly maintained native plants that could be mowed down to create a new grass area for students to work and hang out by Strawberry Creek. This proposal would allow for that.
